Our Coaching Staff

Player. Captain. Coach.
About Coach Max
As a football player for nearly 20 years, and through my experience as a team captain with the Rouge et Or, I made many mistakes along the way. Those mistakes allowed me to grow tremendously—not only as an athlete, but even more as a coach and as a person.
My Coaching Philosophy
"Coach Max" is the result of a combination of: Knowledge gained through my Bachelor's degree in Sport Intervention, as well as ongoing reading and professional development. Real-life experience as a player, student, and coach. Lessons learned from coaches, professors, teammates, friends, and family, whom I observed, analyzed, and learned from to absorb as much as possible.
Mindset & Mental Preparation
I have a strong passion for mindset and mental preparation. Although I am not a certified mental performance consultant, I am highly aware of these elements and intentionally integrate many of them into my coaching approach.
I encourage every athlete to make mistakes, for two main reasons:
First, to create a positive environment where mistakes are accepted and corrected.
Second, because I consistently emphasize that mistakes combined with the reflection and correction process are essential for long-term athletic development.
The result: Confidence goes up, while stress goes down.
I truly believe that sport and my coaching must be rooted in enjoyment. There is nothing more rewarding to me than seeing a young athlete have fun and leave a session genuinely feeling that they got better.
Player Background
My Journey
I am a football enthusiast. Originally from Gatineau, football has been a central part of my life from a very young age. I started playing at 7 years old, and I have never stopped since.
During Grades 10 and 11, I played a full summer season in addition to the Spalding Cup tournament, where I competed in 5 games over 9 days. After the summer season, I continued with two fall seasons, playing both in a community league and a school league. This schedule included six practices and two games per week for eight to ten weeks.
Football brought me to Quebec City, where I played three years with Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy and six years with the Rouge et Or at Université Laval. Along the way, I won one Bol d'Or and two Vanier Cups, and I had the honor of serving as team captain for four years.

Football Journey
Started playing football at 11 as a linebacker — Ravens fan, inspired by Ray Lewis
Grade 8: switched to Wide Receiver due to being undersized
Grade 9: switched to Quarterback — had the best arm on the team
Arrived at Limoilou at ~150 lbs, gained 25 lbs in a year and a half thanks to MVP Nutrition and his strength coaches — finished his Cegep career at 200 lbs
2021: backup role with a special mobility package — perfect season, only loss at the Bol d'or against Vanier
2022-2023: became the starter and captain — back-to-back Bol d'or championships
Recruited by most teams in the Quebec region, chose the Laval Rouge et Or for their values, coaches, and proximity to home
First year at Laval: dressed for every game with a special package (~5-10% of snaps per game)
Mid-season injury: torn ACL in practice — still threw 1 TD and ran for 4 rushing TDs in 5 games
Currently in ACL rehab — progressing very well, set to return next season

Why I coach
My primary mission is to have an impact on their lives by being an example through my actions and the way I carry myself as a man. My goal is to inspire them the way many have inspired me — I am simply paying it forward for a better future. And ultimately, I want to make them love the sport and build a healthy, challenging relationship with it. If they have fun and walk away with a positive experience, my job is done.
Who he is
A linebacker for the Rouge et Or and a student in Sports Intervention, Olivier is passionate about coaching, training, and personal development. He was a key leader and contributor on the 2024 Vanier Cup championship team.

Olivier is a coach who wants to revolutionize the way football is coached. I am thrilled that he will be sharing his passion at the Football Academy this summer to pass on his expertise to the young linebackers of the Quebec region.
